Volunteer with Utah Philharmonic Orchestra

Founded in 1999, the mission of the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra (UPO) is to ignite musical passion and increase access to the arts in our communities. The UPO strives to establish a connection between our audience, our musicians, and the music. We are currently looking for committed, passionate advocates of classical and other genres of music to work with our organization to bring musical passion and access to live symphonic music to communities located away from downtown Salt Lake City.

All positions can be structured around your time and schedule. We want to make it sufficiently simple for you to be an arts advocate in your community, helping to ignite the musical passion and connection of our audiences to the arts

We are looking for passionate arts volunteers in these areas:

Orchestra Operations

Assist in concert planning, stage management, finding venues, etc. We need help at the box office, ushers, stage hands… it takes many hands to make light work of a concert!

Public Relations & Advocacy

Do you enjoy talking with people about your passions? Advocating for the arts? This may be a great fit for you! We talk to the media, government leaders, business owners, and others. Online, in-person, etc.

Building relationships with current and potential sponsors and donors, grant writing, and other fundraising initiatives. This is one of the most gratifying aspects of working with the organization: you speak to people, hear and tell stories, and learn what matters.

Board of Directors

Individuals interested in using their skills, leadership and experience to network, raise funds, and govern a nonprofit that is on a deliberate and strategic growth trajectory.

The board meets virtually on a quarterly basis, and in-person annually for a leadership retreat. There are additional committee meetings for specific topics, and certainly desired attendance at orchestra events.

Board Member Application

Do you play an orchestral instrument? If you are looking for a diverse group with a professional but fun atmosphere, come test drive a rehearsal.

Specifically, we are looking for:

  • string players in all sections
  • Trumpet
  • Tuba

Anyone is welcome to join us at a rehearsal and see how they like it. If we don’t have room on your particular part, we’d love to include you on a list of substitutes, or stay in touch for possible future openings.

If you are interested in any of these areas, please send an email to LeAnn Hord (lhord@utahphil.org).
