Remembering Through Music: Memorial Tribute Concert to 9/11

Friday, September 11, 2015, 7:30 PM at Draper Park Middle School. This concert memorializes the tragic events of September 11, 2001 through music. Selections include Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, and Dvorak’s New World Symphony along with a patriotic sing-a-long for the whole family! Come and honor our first responders and enjoy a unique American celebration in September. All veterans, military, and first responders and their families get in FREE!

 

Requiem by Gabriel Fauré with the Wasatch Chorale

Tuesday, October 27, 2015, 7:30 PM at Covey Center for the Arts, Provo, Utah. The Utah Philharmonic Orchestra joins the Wasatch Chorale to perform Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. This short but monumental work is written for orchestra, organ, mixed chorus and two soloists. Don’t miss this!

 

Symphony Sampler with the Wasatch Chorale

Saturday, November 21, 2015, 7:30 PM at South Hills Middle School, Riverton, Utah. Ever wonder why some symphonies transcend time? Come hear for yourself and enjoy an eclectic symphony of famed Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Haydn selections. The Wasatch Chorale will perform with the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra highlights of the unforgettable Fauré Requiem will guest soloists Dr. Reed Criddle, baritone, and Cecily Ellis-Bills, soprano. The powerful Carmina Burana and Star Wars Duel of the Fates will round out the evening, offering a sample for everyone!

 

Breakfast with Santa: A Victorian Christmas Morning

Saturday, December 6, 2015, 9:00 AM at Midvalley Bible Church. Come dressed Victorian style and partake of a Victorian breakfast, a parlour service activity, music from the era, Christmas Carol excerpts read by Santa, and a Victorian keepsake gift. Bring your family to experience Victorian charity, family and goodwill to all men.

 

Sounds of the Season

Saturday, December 12, 2015, 7:30 PM at Midvalley Bible Church. Come celebrate the holidays with the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra as we present cherished traditional and contemporary favorites. The program will feature Selections from The Nutcracker, Ave Maria, and Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride as well as a number of beloved carols. It will be an exciting night filled with joyous celebration that will surely warm your heart and enliven your season.

 

Todd Green: Ethnomusic

Friday, February 5, 2016, 7:30 PM at Early Light Academy, South Jordan, Utah. Presented by the South Jordan Arts Council and the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra, World Music and Multi-instrumentalist, Todd Green, performs original music on over 30 acoustic string, flute and percussion instruments from all over the world and inspired by many different cultures in the Middle East, Central Asia, Far East and South America. His custom-built electronic system allows him to layer instruments as he performs, which in effect turns him into a high-tech one-man-band of World Music. The Utah Philharmonic Orchestra will round out this exciting program with a bit of classical world music.

 

2016 Twelfth Annual Concerto Competition

Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Riverton Music, Sandy, Utah. Online Registration is now open. The 2016 Utah Philharmonic Orchestra Twelfth Annual Concerto Competition is the only statewide competition open to applicants of all ages and all instruments in five age group and vocal categories. Register to audition before a panel of judges. Winners will perform as soloists with the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra at the final season concert on May 7, 2016. See the contest guidelines, judging criteria, past winners, 2016 ineligible pieces, and frequently asked questions. Online registration and fee payment is preferred but not required. Fry Street Quartet Concert with the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra

Saturday, March 5, 2016, 7:30 PM at Waterford School, Sandy, Utah. Hailed as “a triumph of ensemble playing” (New York Times), Fry Street Quartet has perfected a “blend of technical precision and scorching spontaneity” (Strad). Cultivating authentic and creative artistic voices alongside collaborative skills through chamber music is central to the quartet’s teaching. As guest faculty, the quartet has made repeated visits to Madeline Island Music Camp, the Oficina de Musica in Curitiba, Brazil, The Virginia Suzuki Institute, the David Einfeldt Chamber Music Seminar, the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute, and Credo at Oberlin. This concert features pre-show selections by the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra before the renowned Fry Street Quartet takes the stage for an unforgettable evening of spontaneity and vibrant music.

 

Spotlight Spectacular Concert featuring the 2016 Twelfth Annual Concerto Competition Winners

Saturday, May 7, 2016, 7:30 PM. Twelfth Annual Concerto Competition winners perform a spotlight piece accompanied by the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra. This popular final season concert is attended by patrons from across the state of Utah.
